Welcome to 5 Days of Christmas Reflections!

Verse: He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
(Luke 2:5-7)

Christmas is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior and King. Christmas is one of the most meaningful times of year for us as Christians, yet it’s also a busy and hectic time as we bake, shop, wrap, decorate, and more.

During these 5 days, will you take 5 minutes a day to pause and reflect on the real meaning of the holiday season with me?

Prayer: Lord, help me set aside time to focus on what matters most this holiday season, which is the birth of Jesus my Savior. Help me not lose sight of you in the midst of holiday activities. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

For Discussion:
1. Is your holiday season quiet and reflective or busy and hectic? How so?
2. Consider ways you can spend an extra moment today remembering the true meaning of the season. Share your ideas in the comments below.

We look forward to your comments and questions below!

My holiday season is quiet most of the day on the 24th and then we go to our church (my husband and I) at 4:30 and and I always go to my grandpa's spanish service in the evening. I spend the day listening to music, cleaning and getting ready for church. We used to open gifts at 12 midnight on the 24th and everyone would stay at our house until 2 or 3 in the morning. Well my mom tires more easily now so I decided to change the tradition. There are 6 of us between the ages of 50-58. Well staying up to 12 midnight and beyond wasn't so bad when we were kids and my mom was younger. Slowly, the grandchildren (15 total) started coming and staying up beyond midnight with them was ok too and my mom cherished the moments....but now, those 15 grandchildren have between 1-5 kids each and I decided we weren't going to continue doing the 12 midnight thing. I figure my brothers and sisters can go home and spend time with their kids and their grandchildren and then we can celebrate with my mom during the day on Christmas Day. This was perfect last year because my house was cleaned by 8/9 in the evening and my mom was in bed by 10:00.

My way of remembering the true meaning of the season is listening to Christian music and spending time in church

I plan to start going to church this Sunday as away to turn over a new page in my life after going through a bitter divorce this year. I want to reflect daily on the gifts I have and cherish them. Whatever lies ahead is a new adventure with God as my pilot.

I would say that this season is busy and quite chaotic at times. I’m preparing for our Christmas break from school, but also do ALL the shopping for my family if 5 as well as my parents’ and in-laws’ shopping! There are award assemblies, Christmas parties, and tons of reports for me to attend/write, BUT every morning I focus on one of the names of Christ as part of my advent, I sing in our Christmas choir, and just read Max Lucado’s book, Because of Bethlehem. Those things help keep me grounded and focused on the real meaning of Christmas!!

My Christmas season is too busy and hectic because I worry about the gifts not the reason. I don't take time to pause and listen to the spirit give witness to me the reason for the season. This Christmas I'm taking a pledge to make a difference. TV's off, electronics disconnected, and my scriptures open--along with a direct prayer line to my Heavenly Father!
