Bible Verse: James 1:14-15

“Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”

Reflect and Respond:

Is there a desire in your life that you need to confess and ask God to keep you from?

Prayer:

Father, please give me strength today to say no to even the smallest desire that could grow and drag me away from You. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Thank You Lord for that lesson on giving in to lustful temptation which You likened to a rattlesnake. Lord, I do not wish to be bitten once again for You know how many times I have suffered at the hands of my "rattlesnakes." Please make a way for my escape so that I may avoid contacts with death, I pray, Amen.

I wrote about this very thing in my prayer journal this morning. I often feel that I can handle temptation and say "no" to it when it leads me too far. This is absolutely false! Just giving in to it a little bit is going too far and is sinful. Like handling a snake that could bite me or playing with a fire that could burn me, playing with temptation will surely cause me to fall into sin. Get away from it! Drop it! For once I have gone too far, I have fallen into sin. When I turn to God right at the start of temptation and say "Yes" to Him and He will help me to say "No" to the temptation.
