My experience is that when I allow my tongue to get ahead of good judgement, I say something regretful. But, when I stop, and mentally connect with God, my speech becomes more considerate. The model is Christ, my Lord. Let my words reflect Him.
Self control: that's a term I wish I could say I have mastered but, without Your Holy Spirit helping me Lord, I will never gain that self mastery. Please come to my rescue.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Self-control is listed in the Bible as one of the Fruits of the Spirit – a sign that Christ is in us. Romans 8:28 - And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. When control is given up to God, only good things will come to us. Even when something seems devastating, it will come together for good. Self-control helps us to resist temptation and avoid conforming to the things of this world. It guides our decisions, and it correlates with how we show the other fruits in our lives. ... Jesus Christ gives us the perfect example of self-control, because He lived a sinless life and possessed every fruit of the Spirit. The Bible says in Colossians 3:15 to be led by peace in making decisions. Don't let your emotions make your decisions. A good statement to remember is this: “Wisdom says wait; emotions say hurry.” Heavenly Father, please teach me/us how to apply moderation to everything I do. Do not let me be carried away with worldly activities, but let me be disciplined and have self-control. Let me be efficient in serving you at all times so that you can be happy with me. For in the name of Jesus Christ I pray Amen
Great video thank you.
I am patitent waiting on God on his terms.
Father God, forgive my selfish desires that prevent me from being patient and have self control. Help me to remember the battles are yours. In Jesus name I pray.
Wow Michael. I love your post!! It was truly profound. To connect driving to places to our own spiritual JOURNEY to Heaven. I guess in so many ways I feel the same thing. Sometimes I just want to get to Heaven to meet Jesus in person.... then it's odd..I recently read somewhere where (our lives here in earth, although temporary, should not be used in just "waiting to get to Heaven". That we need to use our time to practice Jesus's works, be examples to those around us).. I've never looked at it that way before either... and it's interesting. I pray that your prayers are answered. Peace be with you. 😇
Maybe it’s my age these days or I have more fruit of patience in me or a little of both but I find it easier to pray for those who test my patience these days rather than annoy me. To the contrary, it’s a perfect opportunity to apologize to them if I’ve made them feel that way. Then Jesus’ forgiveness is a segway. Amen
Self-control goes a long way! I believe we can do anything we put our minds to. First, we must put on the whole armor of protection, and ask God for the strength to keep us from allowing our flash to be weak.
May have just found my answer in Pastor Nats prayer today... Jesus, I admit that I struggle with forgiving people who have sinned against me. And yet I realize that I have sinned against You and against others numerous times and in many ways. Because you have forgiven me for my transgressions, help me to extend the same forgiveness to others. Amen.
Thanks for that Word! Blessings!
Being a Bible believing, Jesus Loving Christian, I can go from 0 to 99 in a New York minute with certain individuals that push my buttons. I don't understand how I can be So patient, understanding and Loving to so many, and lose it totally with a few. LORD change my heart for those that know my buttons all to well, in the mighty name if Jesus. AMEN
I struggle with patience and self-control when I am driving. I want cars to move; I want the light to change; I want a clear path to my destination. It just occurred to me that I want this same clear and open path to heaven, but that is not how it works. There will be delays; there will be detours; there will be stops along the way. May I seek God with patience and self-control on the way to my daily destinations on earth and, most importantly, on my journey to heaven.
I've chosen not to enter disputes without God's directions. Just because I feel strongly about a topic doesn't mean I have to voice my opinion on it. I wait for God to lead me so I don't lead anyone astray.
Needed that reminder, I have no self control and need to rely on God to control my tongue and actions.
