Daughter, Your Faith Has Healed You
A woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.... But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at His feet and, trembling with fear, told Him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
For context, Mark 5:21-43
Sister, if you are like me, you are no stranger to health problems. Many women suffer reproductive health issues, like this poor woman who experienced bleeding for 12 years! Some have also struggled with mental health issues. Others suffer from physical disabilities like the woman in Luke 13:10 who was crippled for 18 years and could not stand up straight.
We can see from the Gospel accounts that Jesus had compassion on women who were not well, whether they were suffering physically, mentally, or spiritually. We see numerous accounts of Jesus miraculously healing women and even raising them from the dead!
In Matthew 8:14-15, we see Jesus healing Peter’s mother-in-law from a fever. Once healed, she got up and began to wait on Him.
In Mark 5:21-43, we read that Jesus was on His way to heal Jairus’s daughter who was sick and dying when the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years touched His cloak and was healed. When Jesus had finished speaking to her, news was brought that the young girl had died. And yet, Jesus said “Don’t be afraid; just believe” (Mark 5:36). He told them not to weep and wail because she was merely sleeping. But they laughed at Him because they knew she was truly dead. Still, He took her by the hand and told her to get up. And she did.
In Matthew 15:21-28, a Canaanite woman approached Jesus asking Him to have mercy on her daughter who was demon-possessed. Jesus granted her request to heal her daughter because of the woman’s humble faith that Jesus was able to save her.
In fact, the common element in all of these stories is faith. The women and their families knew that they could not save themselves. They knew that no doctor could remedy their ailments. No one else could raise their loved ones from the dead. They needed Jesus. He was the only One who could help them. So they pursued Him and would not give up.
The WORD about women is that our faith in Jesus heals us. Now, we may or may not be physically healed here on earth - that is dependent on God’s will. But our physical health is not our greatest need. Physical healing is only temporary anyway. Each and every one of the women Jesus healed eventually went on to die an earthly death.
No, our deepest need is spiritual healing. We need healing from the sickness of sin and the power of death. If we place our faith in Jesus, healing from sin and death is a guarantee. And it’s a healing that is not temporary, it’s eternal. Sister, if you’ve put your faith in Jesus Christ, your faith has healed you. Forever. So pursue Him and don’t give up!
Reflect
How have you experienced the healing hand of God in your life?
Pray
Father, thank You for being my Healer. While you haven’t healed all of my physical ailments here on Earth, you have spiritually healed me! Because of that, I look forward to Heaven with great anticipation to be eternally relieved of this broken body and whole in mind, body and spirit. Amen.
