Who Do You Go To?

Just a Thought

One of my favorite movies is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It’s a story of the value of relationships and second chances. Well, there’s this scene where George Bailey is in a real bad spot. He doesn’t go where he should go to the people he can trust and rely on. Instead, he goes to old man Potter, who promptly shames George and proceeds to call the police.

Who do you call in your worst trials? Well, King David tells us who we should call.

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4).

Kind David experienced much undue hardship. He was God’s anointed and hunted continually by someone he cared for, King Saul. Yet, he didn’t take matters into his own hands. He turned to the one who could do something about it. God.

God saw all the pain and suffering David experienced. God cared and delivered him from his fear. God sees all the pain and suffering you’re experiencing. He cares, and he will deliver you from all your fear.

Whatever you are doing. Wherever you are at, stop and pray to God to deliver you from the fear you’re facing today. He will if you let Him.

Read Psalm 34.

Reflect

Psalm 34 has two halves. What would you call part 1? Part 2? What does David mean by “taste and see that the Lord is good”? What promises do you see in this Psalm?

Respond

How does your life taste right now? How would it taste if you found your satisfaction with God? What fears do you need God to relieve you from?

Prayer

Father, I want to taste and experience your goodness. Help me to do so today. Amid all my fears, remove them from me, and bring me your peace. Amen.

Dear God please help me overcome my fear and anxiety about returning to work next week. Nobody knows the date. Nobody knows what my job will look like. It won't be the job I've had.

Help me trust that you'll help me get back into a routine and that my new job will be better for me in the end because you are in charge.

Help ease my anxiety while I wait to hear when I need to physically return to the building.

Please God hear my plea, show me the road.

This whole situation is difficult for us all. I will be thinking of you and I understand your concerns and I feel them myself. I know we, who love Christ, are in His Hands. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
