When You Don’t Get What You Deserve

September 10

Read Psalm 103:10-12

He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

According to Scripture, what do our sins deserve? How is God still just if He is forgiving?

Yesterday, we read about how Jesus does not condone personal revenge, rather that God promises to give people the justice they deserve. We can rest assured that God will judge all of us according to our deeds. And yet, for those of us in Christ, we will not receive the punishment that we deserve -- death.

Those of us in Jesus have had our sins removed from us. Where did they go? On Jesus. 1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live to righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.”

God is both just and full of steadfast love and mercy. In order to save us, someone had to bear our sins, or else justice would not be served. Someone had to die for our transgressions. So God sent Jesus to be the propitiation of our sins. Jesus paid the price. We received mercy.

When believers in Jesus have been wronged and want to “give them what they deserve”, we need to remember that we have not been giving what we deserve. We were shown mercy. We were forgiven. May we put God’s love on display by showing mercy and granting forgiveness to those around us. They don’t deserve it, but neither do we.

Jesus, thank You for not dealing with me as I deserve. Thank You for Your grace and mercy. Help me extend the same forgiveness to others. Amen.

And Jesus death with His shed blood was not only a way to forgive us forever but also the start of the New Covn't ..which is a better way then the old law and animal sacrifices which didn't take away sin ?amen

Let go of that hurt forgive him as God as forgiven us. Give to God for He alone will decide to restore renew once what was. He can make all things knew. Remember to Trust Believe that God is Your strength in times of trouble and Joy. He will not fail You! It is your husband who needs the forgiveness which he much seek from Jesus first then You. Above all may God Heal Your Heart with His Mercies and Grace to know He is not done with You Yet. God Bless You and Keep You Always Sister. In Jesus Mighty name Amen.
Wow. That must be incredibly hard. I pray for restoration. I pray for true repentance.
Still in the hurting phase,I have forgiven my husband for his adulterous ways, I would like my marriage made whole again, but as I observed him today and heard him speak there is a few things I noted, first he thinks he did no wrong ,but you walked out on a 33yr marriage ,he tells me he is waiting for God to work it out,yet he has never said that he was sorry. Only if God would please remove the love for him from my heart, I can be civil as I have been for 2yrs since,he walked out. Please pray for passage of my love for him,to something constructive and productive, for my life and help to others.AMEN
Lord thank You for Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross, by His stripes we are healed. Help me to honor You, show me the ways that I need improvement. Guide my footsteps so I remain on the path that leads to You. I repent to You all my sins. Thank You Lord. In Jesus Christ name I pray, Amen.
Thank you Lord for your continued mercy.
I'm really not sure how this works but I did do the one yesterday and the day do we mark complete after each lesson or after we have done our daily bread for the week I'm confuse can someone help me in finding my way around the class. I thank you kindly
I found this to be very helpful I just thank God for his mercy and grace that he can look at us and forgive us for anything. Human see things in a different light. We forgive but never for getting what someone do to us where God he forgives and through it into the sea of for get forgiveness. I think often maybe he do not want us to forget so we won't repeat the same mistakes over, and over again. But what ? do I know his way are not our way, and our ways are not his.
By His Grace we are born again into His Glory and in His Kingdom. Amen
Tim's answer is correct. Once saved, always saved. Your sins are as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). So all sins are forgiven for the one who is born again. Now it is true that passages like 1 Cor. 6:9 says people who are defined by certain sins (all sins really) will not inherit the kingdom of God. Why would Paul say that? Well, what he's saying is that people who aren't saved, they will we marked and known for their sinful lifestyle. But those who are saved, will by the power of the Holy Spirit become sanctified. They will be repentant and remorseful when they win. They are in a battle to overcome temptation, but not be a slave to it anymore. So can a Christian still sin? Yep. Will they. Yep. But they won't be a slave to it anymore. I hope this helps!
Thank you Lord for your unconditional love and forgiveness.
Aaaamen understanding is the key to learning
Dear Lord, Thank you for your grace and mercy.
Thank you, Lord.
Thank you Pastor Nat for making this so clear over the last couple of days. God has been working with me on forgiveness/merciful/vengeance. Last evening I was able to experience the drastic change in the way I handled a situation as compared to even last week. Thank you God for transforming me and please continue.
Terry, When Jesus died for you, you weren't yet born. Nor had you committed any sin. But He forgave those sins he knew you would commit. If you have accepted Jesus as your savior, your sins past, present and future are forgiven and heaven awaits you.
Thank you God for showing me mercy .
What if you have a certain sin you keep doing? Are we still saved? Will we still go to heaven?
Thank you God for loving me. Even as broken as I am. I feel like I never learn, even though I keep trying... I love you.
Thanks for the devotional
Amen🙏 ! Father, thank You for loving me and not treating me the way I deserved. Help me to do the same to others.

Thank you Jesus! I can never fathom the sacrifice you made for us( me) on that cross ! You who were without sin took Gods wrath for me who is so deserving of it! I can never pay you back ! I look forward for the day I’m called home to thank you in person! In your glorious name I pray Amen ✝️🙏🇺🇸
This good news of the gospel is that Jesus died for our sins. We are no longer condemned. We are set free because of God’s grace in Jesus. There is no greater gift. We should be so thankful everyday. Amen
Love you God.Thanks so much for protecting and Loving us in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Thank you for another very needed devotion it opened my eyes and heart to the needs of others and all I have to do is look around me thanks so so much!
Surely we don't deserve the mercy of God, Yet He died for us to demonstrate His unending love toward us sinners. Yes He himself bore our sins in Jesus because the Father and the Son are one. It is inspiring and comforting. Thank you
I don't deserve God's love or forgiveness because I sin so much
As Christ follower, we are forgiven sinners, thank you Lord Jesus.
