What Your Heart Knows - Your Daily Forward Devotional

What Your Heart Knows

May 6

Read Philippians 1:9 (ESV)

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and discernment.

Do you feel like you would benefit more from emotional/relational spiritual growth or intellectual spiritual growth? Why?

Have you ever heard someone say, “Well, my Jesus would never say that” (even if He did)? Or maybe you’ve heard something like “My God would never...” What’s interesting is that we all seem to be trying to talk about the same God, but we have drastically different ideas about who He is. How can we truly know who God actually is?

Christian Bible teacher and author, Jen Wilkin, is quoted as saying: “The heart cannot love what the mind does not know.” Her point? You can’t really love someone if you don’t know them. Think about it. If I told you my wife was a green-eyed redhead who was super quiet and shy, people who actually know her would undoubtedly question my love for my own wife. After all, if I don’t even know my own wife’s looks and personality, I must not know her very well! Likewise, there are many Christians who claim to know God but do not know the God of the Bible.

In today’s passage, Paul shared a prayer that he had for the Philippian church. He wanted their love to abound, or overflow, with knowledge and discernment. There is a comingling of the heart and mind here. Paul wanted them to love God more and more. He knew that the more they loved God, the more they would want to know Him. The more they studied His Word and lived in relationship with Him, the more they would love Him. The more they loved Him and His Word, the more they would love each other. And on and on it would go.

Paul also specifically prayed that God would give the Philippians discernment. Discernment means “the ability to judge well.” If we truly know God and His Word, we should be able to judge wisely between false doctrine. We should be able to discriminate between Biblical ideas and worldly philosophies. And it should be easy for us to spot someone talking about God in a way that doesn’t line up with the Bible.

Friends, at Back to the Bible, that is our prayer for you as well. We pray that your love for God may abound more and more! We want you to grow in your understanding of who God is and what He said in His Word. We want You to grow in your ability to be wise and discerning. Jesus said the greatest commandment is: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). But to love Him, you have to know Him. The best news is He has revealed Himself to us in His Word. We can truly know who God is! May you learn to love Him even more today than yesterday.

God, I want to spend my whole life learning more about You. Help me to grow in my understanding of who You truly are so that I can love you with my heart, soul, and my mind. Amen.

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

As we who have accepted Jesus Christ been Batized in The River of His Blood, we are His nothing can change or take Him away from You! Fact God's Truth Word is for us to understand interpretation is ours not that those who claim they know God's Truth Word! We can not limit or put God in a box locked away.

There is only "One" God who is The Living God who is The Holly Bible. To say Christians do not know The God of The Bible is simply an assuming that one's interpretation is correct and that is not true. God is The creator of all The Universe, The Only God The Father, Son, and Holly Spirit as One. The Holly Trinity of All! Just because a teacher of The Holly Bible says it to be so does not it make.
If anyone reads understands and clearly see's God's Word understanding what God's Truth is does not make of the world.

Yesterday a quote was given of a man who does not believe in The Holly Spirit but states The Bible is all we need to know Jesus. That only modern believes believe in the Holly Spirit. Now this is false Doctrine! I can say all is well with my Soul because I am a child of God. He say to Love Him with all our Heart Soul Spurt Mind and Might. We are to grow together Inspire encourage each other lead with Jesus Love.

Just because someone or other's receive God's Word and interpretation is different than one who says they are of God does not make them correct and others not understanding of God's Word.
We are to challenge each other call out when falsehoods or testimonials are giving. It is like Mormons believing the book of Mormon which is false.

Father often we turn to those we believe are teaching your true word. That is not always true Lord. In fact many teachers try to tell us what we know as your true word that it is not. That would put You in a box cutting short of remembering that we learn and never stop in Your Word. Father Please Bless us to remember You are God not Humanity or this world. To grow closer together with You not pulling us away from You because of what a teacher believes to be the only Truth if Your Word. To say Father we do not know the God of The Bible is simply one's own beliefs. For You are God of all things who made us in The image of You! Father one is not less than any other as you have said but less of only You! Father I pray You open and soften the hearts of those who call themselves teachers. Lord religion is not You it is of this world. We are child of Jesus which makes us Christians who build build life through Jesus Christ Our Savior King Creator Healer Redeemer. In all things Father draw neaier to us so we can grow together in serving You not telling others things that would make them think their not worthy. For You have Jesus You can to make us all worthy. Thank You Lord in Jesus name Amen Great is Your Faithfulness Father
