Weary Workers

November 26

Read Galatians 6:9-10

Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Reflect

What has you feeling weary lately? What opportunities for doing good do you have in front of you?

If we took a survey and asked Americans how they are feeling right now, it’s a good chance that many of us would say that we are weary. We are weary of this virus. Healthcare workers are especially exhausted. But the effects of this virus have impacted every single one of us. No matter what God has called you to do, I am sure you have felt weary at some point this year.

Paul offers us some encouragement. He says, “let us not grow weary in doing good”. Paul had been focusing on the truth that we are saved by grace through faith. So, doesn’t it seem like Paul is contradicting himself here? Why do we need to do good if we are not saved by our good deeds? But it’s not a contradiction. We need to do good because it is by our works that we glorify our Father. It is by our good works that we shine a light in a dark world. Our good deeds are the evidence of our faith and the evidence of our love for the people around us. Our good deeds point other people to Jesus.

Friends, I don’t know the exact reason for your weariness. But I do know that during this challenging season, the church is being given unique opportunities to do good to all people. If only we are not too weary of taking advantage of every opportunity God places in front of us. So many people have needs right now. Let’s be on the lookout for ways we can take care of others. Don’t give up!

Pray

Father, I know that so many people need Your help right now. Please show me how to be your hands and feet during this time. Sustain me so that I do not become weary doing good in Jesus’s name. Amen.

I am truly blessed by your explanation of what appeared to be a contradiction by Paul's plea to do good and not be weary. Thank you Pastor Crawford.
