Training Day

October 19

Read Titus 2:11-12

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.

What does God’s grace do that changes us?

Countless testimonies contain a phrase something to the effect of “I am not the same person I used to be” or “Jesus changed me”. That’s because when we receive salvation, we are set free from the power of sin. The old us has died with Christ on the cross and the new us is raised to life in Him. But we are not yet perfected. Sanctification is a process.

You see, Jesus is not just our Savior. He is our teacher. Did you ever notice that in the Gospels He is referred to as “Teacher” or “Rabbi” and Jesus’s followers are called “disciples” which means “students” or “learners”?

In our Scripture for today, Paul says that the grace of God “trains us”. Like our first day on the job or the first few workouts of a new exercise program, we won’t know everything or have all the skills honed that we need to live just like Jesus. But we will have the greatest trainer of all time! One day, we’ll look back and be amazed at our progress. Like we aren’t even the same person anymore. We will become more like Him every day.

Friends, let God’s grace train you today. Open up the Word, dig in, and see what you can learn to help you deny ungodliness and live a self-controlled, godly life.

Teacher, I want to learn how to be more like You. Train me in righteousness and self-control. Amen.

Salvation is a one shot deal....but sanctification is a lifetime! One of my favorite verses - "He that has begun a good work in thee will continue to do it unto the day of Jesus Christ". Phil 1:6 Blessings, Jim

Thank you!
What a wonderful goal to be like Jesus our Lord, God and savior. I think that means that we learn to trust and obey Jesus and his word completely, totally, and with great joy. The peace and understanding that in all things and everywhere Jesus loves us and is working out our salvation or sanctification. Read his word, meditate on what it means, reflect on how it looks in your life, write your thoughts down, share them with others and then go live the day glorifying him. I have decided to follow Jesus no turning back no turning back. Amen
This is a good word. Not enough pastors are calling people to live that way.
