The Lord Will Take You In

Published 1/10/20

Read Psalm 144:9-11

"I will sing a new song to you, O God; upon a ten-stringed harp I will play to you, who gives victory to kings, who rescues David his servant from the cruel sword. Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood."

Reflect

What does it mean to sing a new song to the Lord?

Whether you are a single or married woman, the Bible says that your Redeemer, Jesus, the One who delivered you from the kingdom of darkness into His kingdom of light, is your Bridegroom and you are His beloved. When you committed your life to Christ, it was as if you were at the altar saying, "I do." There are numerous references to this truth. In Jeremiah 31:32, God said He loved His people as a husband loves his wife. He told them in Hosea 2:16 that in a coming day, His people would call Him Husband instead of Master. In the same way a husband provides security for his wife, He promised in Psalm 146 that He would lead the fatherless and husbandless to security. He is forever faithful, and whether we are forsaken by husband, father, or mother, whether we are alone or surrounded by loved ones, Scripture says, "the Lord will take me in" (Psalm 27:10).

For a transforming experience in God's Word, make Psalm 144 through 150 your prayer to God morning and evening for thirty days and see what new revelations you gain. Don't just read the verses in these Psalms. Pray them aloud to God, whether you feel like it or not, as your worship of Him. I have found this is a sure prescription for depression and anxiety, and for times when I am overwhelmed. Absorbed over time, the power of God's Word will lift your eyes from the problem to who God is. The power of the Word will change your heart and life.

Let Scripture bridge the gap between head and heart. Seeing the Lord as your Husband and your children's Father may be hard to relate to, so I encourage you to look up the following verses and meditate on them. As you do, ask the Holy Spirit to bridge the gap between your head and your heart so these truths will sink in:

• The Lord . . . cares for the orphans and widows. (Psalm 146:9 NLT)

• "Your Creator will be your husband; the Lord of Heaven's Armies is his name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth." (Isaiah 54:5 NLT)

• As the bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. (Isaiah 62:5)

• "Return home, you wayward children," says the Lord [to the children of Israel], "for I am your master." (Jeremiah 3:14 NLT)

Pray

Lord, rescue me and protect my family and me. Take me in when I am alone, strengthen me when I am weak. Be my Redeemer. Amen.
