Read John 10:7-10
So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Is it loving or narrow-minded to tell others that Jesus is the only way to God? Why?
During the pandemic, some stores locked all the doors except for one and had everyone enter through the one main door or else they would be denied entry. Many people grumbled about this, but it didn’t change the facts. If you wanted to get into the store, one door was open. You were allowed in, but it had to be through that door.
Now, imagine that you see a crowd of people lining up waiting to go through another door that you know is locked. There are a whole bunch of people who are going to be frustrated and upset when they discover that they were standing in a line that was going nowhere! They are going to be denied entry if they don’t choose the right door. What would be the loving thing to do? Leave them standing there wasting time and let them figure out they were wrong on their own, or kindly point out the only way into the store? The answer seems obvious in this scenario, doesn’t it?
But friends, there is a lot more at stake when it comes to eternity than just wasted time and frustrations. Sadly, people are lining up behind all sorts of beliefs that claim to lead to God and eternal life with Him. But someday, they are going to find out a devastating reality. They were wrong. They chose the wrong door and now the only way in is locked as well. They found out too late that all doors do not lead to heaven.
As Christians, we get called narrow-minded for our belief that Jesus is the only way to God and heaven. But we didn’t invent this idea. Jesus Himself said it. In today’s passage, Jesus said that He is the door that leads to peaceful pasture which is eternal rest—heaven! Everyone else who claims to be the way is lying. They are trying to steal and destroy souls. But if we enter through Jesus, THE door, our souls find an abundant and everlasting life.
In John 14:6, Jesus put it this way: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Friends, the door is open for everyone but there is only one door. Jesus Christ. Don’t be led astray by those who seek to kill and destroy. When you see others lining up behind the wrong door, kindly tell them the truth. Jesus is the only way to the Father. There are human souls at stake. If we love people, we tell them the truth. Jesus is the door—the only way to God.
Jesus, I acknowledge that You are the only way to God the Father. Give me the courage to speak the truth in love to those you place in my path. I want the world to know that You are the door. Amen.
