Take Care to Remember - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Take Care to Remember

March 11

Read Deuteronomy 4:9 (ESV)

Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children.

Are you prone to forgetting what God has done for you? What helps you remember?

What do you do to help you remember everything you have to keep track of each day? A friend of mine says “hat, keys, phone, wallet” and pats them all to ensure they are on his head or in his pockets before he leaves for work each day. His wife says it looks like he is doing some kind of strange dance every morning on his way out of the door. But he says he hasn’t forgotten anything in a long time so it must work for him!

Maybe you also recite a list in your head of things you need to recall. Maybe you write them down or set reminders and alarms on your phone. No matter what their method of choice, when people have important things to remember, they rarely leave it up to their own brains to remember unassisted. Why? We are forgetful people!

In today’s verse, Moses reminded the Israelites to remember all that they had seen God do for them. They had just finished 40 years of wandering in the desert and were poised to finally take control of the Promised Land. The entire book of Deuteronomy is dedicated to reviewing the Law and reminding the Israelites of how God wants them to live. Moses goes to great lengths to remind the Israelites that they need to be diligent to remember everything that God has done for them and what He has taught them.

Why was it so important for the Israelites to remember God what God had commanded them? Because the covenant between God and the Israelites was conditional—it was based on obedience. If they wanted God’s blessings, they needed to keep His commandments. In order to keep His commandments, they had to remember them. Also, if they forgot the many miracles that God had done for them, they would not have the faith they needed to move forward in the future.

It was especially critical for them to pass the story down to the future generations. Moses knew that if parents were not intentional in passing their faith down to their children, they would eventually become a generation that didn’t know God. And of course, that is exactly what happened to them.

Friends, our God is too important to forget! We need to take intentional steps to remember everything that He has commanded and everything He has done for us. So read His Word daily, record the things that He has done for you, memorize Scripture, sing the songs of the faith, and teach them to your children and grandchildren! Take care to do whatever it takes to keep God’s Word from departing from your heart and the hearts of future generations.

God, You have been so good to me. I want to remember and share with others all the ways that You have been faithful to provide and care for me. Remind me when I forget, Lord. Keep drawing my mind back to You. Amen.

Joey. I very much appreciate your post. I recall m!ny many times God protected me, many times from myself. Too many blessings to recall. I just have to stop and think of Him instead of Me. May HE continue to bless and you.
Pastor Nat this Devotional was just wonderful today! Keep our Hearts and Souls from generation to generation that God may Smile down upon us. I think sometimes Pastor Nat we forget to call on Jesus for our every need. Not just in time of storms, trials and pain. We must remember there is and will never be anything better than The Lord. For He sees our every weakness, it is in that weakness He reminds us not just in weakness but in Joy call upon, sing, dance rise up hands up Praising Jesus for He is The only One who Cares! I wear the same Cross upon my neck for 35 years that reminds me that I also carry that Cross on my shoulder to the right of Jesus. Heavenly Father I'm sorry I have to admit I to sometimes forget to come to You not just in the weakness but The Joy as well. From the day You came into my Heart You have never let go or left and will never. Father as Proverbs 22:6 say we must Train up a child in the way he/she should go: and when he/she is old, he/ she will not depart from it! Father this is Your Truth I build upon only The Foundation You Jesus gave me/us to build upon Your Word. Lord sometimes we forget all we have to do is call upon Jesus for their is The only Power in His Glorious Blessed name. Father You have never failed us nor ever will You. We may not like Your answer but the knowing it's Your Will not ours, You bring us through stronger in You Lord. Please Father remind us to Uplift not only our Blessings of children which are Your children but to Uplift each other from generation to generation as I Pray You will Smile down upon us and Your Family Lord. I give and surrender all to You for I still Believe, in Jesus name Amen

Amen! Let us remember what God has done for us in the past; and also, what He's done for others......He'll do for You!!! Always, always, He called His people back to Himself; showed how much He loved them; and He still does this. He provided in every way, and has a plan that will never fail.
Thank you Pastor Nat. Last night was a challenging night. My daughter was in so much pain. Both of us did not sleep. I was sobbing in my bedroom talking to God. I jumped in my bed sobbing. God it is painful to watch my Janice in pain. I remembered those days when her pain was manageable. I thanked God. It was a yo-yo of tears thank yous, praise and remembrace. Looking back on how God has come through when in dire I really mean real dire. That song I sang alone in the Hospital Chapel on my knees " I know that my Redeemer lives" the operation was 8 hours and it was a success. I rembered this yesterday as I sobbed. Faithfullyl I remembered God heard me. Thank you Jesus. Help me to remember always how you answer and hear my prayers when I am constantly being challenged. Thank Oh Mighty God. Amen.

Amen! Thank you for showing us Gods way. I pray for Godly wisdom when our children ask those questions that only they can ask. To give them only those answers that are Gods truth way and light!
Thank God for giving us another beautiful day and thank you pastor Nat for the devotional Amen
Thank you, Lord. Amen.
Love that prayer Very appropriate for my new journey in life
Hmmm....words to live by, thank you! While there are certainly an infinite number of ways to help remind oneself of God’s possession and convent-promises, I often carry a small white stone with me. Yup! It serves as my constant companion and reminder of God’s eternal promise and is quite portable. It is my reminder to serve God in all situations and to look forward to His favorable judgment by the Blood of the Lamb (white stone symbolizes a favorable judgement in Hebrew court). Rev 2:17: Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it. It is also a proven conversation-starter.. 😊 Just one way to remember.. Amen!
I am eternally grateful for everything You have done for me Lord. I will always praise Your name for Your faithfulness. Amen.🙏🏼💗
Forget not the blessings of the Lord. It is easy to forget when we are going through trials of many kind. But during the difficult times of testing is when we must remember that the Lord Jesus is with us always and loves us so much that he died for us. If God is with us who can be against us? Lord Jesus please help me to remember all of your blessings today so I may honor and glorify you in all my ways. Amen
Jesus thank you for your sacrifice and forgive our sin's!!!
Jesus please help us 🙏🙏🙏
