Stand Firm

October 20

Read Exodus 14:13-14

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

How does knowing that God is fighting your battles affect your attitude in the midst of struggle?

Many of us are in trying times right now. As believers, we know that God has promised us victory in Jesus. And yet, sometimes it doesn’t feel like it. Sometimes, every day feels like a major battle.

Maybe that’s what the Israelites felt like during the Exodus. God had promised them the victory. He had promised them deliverance from the Egyptians. But just as they were escaping, they see Pharaoh in pursuit and begin to panic. They thought they were in for a major battle. They saw the skilled army on chariots descending upon them and just knew it was a battle they were bound to lose. They began to accuse Moses of leading them out into the desert to die. They began to imagine that their old life in chains was better than whatever lay ahead of them. Even though they’d been promised salvation and deliverance, they started to doubt. They doubted to the point that they were willing to settle for the oppression they once knew than to trust God for their freedom and the better life He had promised.

They doubted because they forgot that they weren’t the ones fighting the battle. And they forgot how powerful the One who was fighting their battle was. It is interesting that they were able to forget that God was with them because in Exodus 13:21-22 we read that as they left Egypt the LORD’s presence was physically in their midst in the form of a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. It says that His presence never left it’s place in front of the people. But they must have taken their eyes off of God’s presence and focused their eyes on the army bearing down on them.

It’s also interesting that they had forgotten the mighty power of the One who was with them. They had just witnessed the plagues on Egypt and they had seen God’s salvation when He spared them during the Passover. How could they doubt His ability to keep them safe?

Friends, it is so easy for us to forget the very same things. We forget that God is with us, we forget He is fighting our battles for us, and we forget just how powerful He is. We don’t have God’s presence in a pillar of cloud or fire, but we do have His presence with us all times and in all places. The Holy Spirit dwells within us. Our problems are not too big for Him to take care of. He can fight our battles. We just need to keep our eyes on Him and be still before Him in faith.

LORD, there is nothing too hard for You. You are mighty to save. Thank You for fighting my battles. Help me to keep my eyes on You so that I can have faith and trust You. Amen.

Amen Amen and Amen! Keep your eyes focused on the Cross .... there is no one there. JESUS died, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and on the third day HE arose. He is sitting on the right hand of God the Father as our intermediary.
Evermore today, Lord Jesus, we need to just trust in Your mercy and Your goodness and witness Your salvation.
It's easy to look at our problems and forget to keep our eyes on God. Thank you for this lesson today. It is very much appreciated. God bless you!
So applicable for these difficult days
"Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord. "Psalm 31:24." God comes into our lives and help with whatever we need, from the mundane to the miraculous. Thanks my Lord, for fighting my battles. I will keep my eyes on You.
I must always remember the battle is not mine, but believe God is by my side.
God fight our battles we are safe and secure, to be silent that is all God ask of us to do.
The song writer says it beautifully "roll back the curtains of memory now and then show me where you brought me from and where I could have been!
He is always with you!
Thank you Lord Jesus for reminding us to keep our eyes on the Holy word and that you are always among your people.
Father God ! I trust and believe in you!! You will never leave me( us) nor forsake me ! Thank You in Jesus name I pray Amen 🙏✝️🇺🇸
How I needed this on today. We do forget just how powerful He is and that he is always in battle for us even when we don’t know it. Thank you Father for being so amazing.
I needed to hear and be reminded of this message today!! I am facing a challenge that only God can deliver me from, and I know He will! Thank you!
This is so uplifting. When we are in dire need of the Lord we forget that He is there more than ever.
I have been recently guilty of not practicing patience while waiting on God's promises for my life, and yet again He came through, right on time. Thank you Lord for your patience with me and forgive me for doubting your word.
The battle belongs to the Lord! Boy did I need this today....thank you to God be the glory!
O Lord, I have not fully trusted You to fight my battles, I am sorry for this. Forgive me Lord. For I know He is better in me, than he thats in the world. I want to trust You Lord for all situations in my life. You are mighty and all knowing. Thank You for not giving up on me. In Christ Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Amazing how God's word can be so timely. I know how easy it is to forget God's promises and turn the focus on the situation and my incompetence in dealing with it. He is Amazing.
What side is the Lord on? No, what side of the battle are you on? We must be on the Lord’s side! The Lord is active and moving to accomplish his will. Our battles are his battles because he loves us. We are always victorious when we are moving with and in him. Jesus May we have eyes to see and hearts to know your plans for us so we can be on your side loving you.
Every word, exactly what I needed to hear. Even if some of my troubles are self brought. I can trust God to help me turn and follow His wisdom and blessed way. All things are His and my life is under His powerful purpose and spiritual protection.
