Seeing the Path - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Seeing the Path

September 11

Gravel ends.” That’s what the sign said the night we drove my buddy home from a basketball game. “Oh, that’s great,” I thought. “Gravel ends? That means pavement begins!” I was so wrong.

You see, gravel ends means dirt, or in this case, pure mud begins. Well, I thought, no problem, I’ve got this v4 front-wheel-drive Ford. That will get through…well, nothing.

I drove 100 feet, and we were going no further. We were stuck. I mean …stuck.

Our Christian life can be the same way. We know where we want to go. We see the path, but we still get stuck.

The apostle Peter has a message for you if you’re feeling spiritually stuck.

“You, therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen” (2 Peter 3:17-18).

There are many reasons we get stuck: success, failure, trials, false teaching…many reasons. One way to get unstuck is, as Peter said, “To grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Here at Back to the Bible, we have many great resources to help you grow in God’s Word. Studies show that if you engage in God’s Word four or more days a week, you’ll grow spiritually and struggle less.

So if you’re stuck, engage God’s Word and let Him get you moving again.

Text in Context: Read 2 Peter 3

Reflect: What frustrations does God’s patience produce? How is God’s patience a benefit? How does Peter’s reference to Paul also encourage his reads in right behavior?

Respond: Maybe you’ve heard that the best defense is a good offense. How can you apply Peter’s similar strategy against false teaching? What will you do to grow in grace and Christ?

Prayer: Father, thank you for giving me a source of growth. Help me to love your Word more so I can keep growing in you. Amen.
