Our Constant - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Our Constant

March 2

Read Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Reflect

How do you handle the constant changes in life?

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is credited as saying, “The only thing that is constant is change.” And in this world, it certainly seems true on the surface. People change as they grow, jobs change, friendships change, addresses change, churches change, health changes, income changes, information and expertise changes, etc. Some people enjoy all of the changes and find them exciting. But for many of us, it causes a sense of instability to have the sands constantly shifting beneath our feet. We are tired and weary of the endless changes. We just want to have something we can count on.

The good news is that Heraclitus wasn’t entirely correct. It turns out there is a constant in this world. Scripture tells us that God is still who He has always been and Jesus Christ is still who He always said He was - God. The Gospel of John says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind” (John 1:1-4, NIV). Jesus was with God in the beginning. He is the Creator and He is eternal. Jesus Christ was in eternity past, He’s in eternity present, and He’ll still be there in eternity future.

While information and the words of the world fluctuate, Jesus Himself said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Matthew 24:35, ESV). Jesus also said that people who are wise will build their lives on His Word because building on anything else is like building on the sand (Matthew 7:24-27). His Word is a rock and a sure foundation. A constant in a world where change is the only other thing you can count on.

Friends, I don’t know what changes you are facing in your life right now. Regardless, you can experience peace if you have placed your faith in Christ. He is the only thing in your life that never changes. And because of that, you can count on Him, friends. He is our constant.

Pray

Jesus, thank You for being a rock and a sure foundation in my life. I am so grateful that no matter what changes are happening around me, I can count on You to stay the same. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Amen.

Everything in my life has changed this past yr my husband of 68 yrs passed , because of COVID age and health family didn’t want me alone, my home and the thing we accumulated are gone but praise God he has not. Can’t Praise him enough for his faithfulness goodness and mercy. So thankful for the memories. Thankful for the Lord allowing us to grow old together. He has promised to take care of me. Jesus holds all the universe together by the word of his power. Our understanding about Jesus is so limited because we have difficulty putting the loving Jesus together with the almighty Jesus. The good news is we need both parts of him. The loving forgiving Jesus and the solid cornerstone that everything stands. Let us worship him with fear and trembling coming to him as our God and savior. Amen
He understands you more than you do! What an amazing God.

I needed this reading as I have been struggling with patience especially with people. It's a constant battle to not get your raw emotions entangled with other people's mannerisms and characteristics that constantly changes from one to the next.

God in His foreknowledge knew we would be faced with all of these changes in life. And because of that He has given us a sure foundation. He has given us His Word, His promises, and a never changing Christ in an ever changing world. That gives us stability and an enduring Hope. What a mighty God we serve.
