Narrow-minded Christians

Read Matthew 7:12-14

Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Reflect

Have you heard others complain that it is narrow-minded to believe Jesus is the only way to heaven? What is your response to that?

The most common pushback I've heard about Christianity is that it is narrow-minded to believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven. My response? Is it narrow-minded to trust the surgeon's prescription of chemo for cancer? Is it narrow-minded to follow the nutritionists' orders to follow a diet and exercise? I guess so, but when it's the right prescription, I want to be narrow-minded. God is no different.

Jesus Himself told us that in order to gain everlasting life, we have to enter through the "narrow" gate. He never makes the claim that the path to heaven is anything less than narrow. In the Gospels, He said very clearly that He is the only way. He also never said it would be an easy road. On the contrary, He repeatedly tells us that it's a hard road. He tells us we will be hated as He was hated, that we have to deny ourselves, that we have to lose our lives to find them, forgive people that hurt us, and pray for our enemies. No, He never claimed it was easy.

But it is simple. We enter through one gate. That is Jesus Christ. We believe in Him and trust Him for our salvation. Then we follow Him and walk with Him on that often difficult path for the rest of our earthly lives until we reach eternity. And that will be our reward. Everlasting life in a perfected world with Jesus. It will be worth it!

Just because the road is narrow, it doesn't mean that it is exclusive. The narrow gate is open to everyone. You don't have to fix yourself first. You don't have to be a certain race or gender. You can't buy your way in, and you won't be excluded because of poverty. Your good works won't get you in, and your past deeds won't keep you out. The gate is narrow, but it is not locked. If you want to enter through the narrow gate that leads to life, follow Jesus right on through!

The reality is that only a few find everlasting life, not because it's an exclusive club and others aren't welcome, but because many people don't want to enter by the gate. Our sin natures tell us that we can do things our own way. But God has the right to tell us how to get to His heaven. And He did through His Son, Jesus Christ. All we have to decide is will we enter the gate or not.

Pray

Father, Thank You for making a way for me to get to You through Jesus. Help me to stay the course on the narrow path that You have set before me. Amen.

Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV) So whatever you wish that others would do for you, do also do to them, for this is the law and the Prophets. Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to the destruction, and those who enter are many.. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
For this is the law and the Prophets. verse 13 Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and and the way is easy the leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.(ESV)
The only way to the father is through Jesus! John 14;6 Amen ✝️🙏🇺🇸
I am so happy and very grateful to enter through the narrow gate! Previously, I followed new age teachings that taught 'all paths lead to God'. God called me back to Himself and I followed Him. Praise the Lord! My mom prayed for me faithfully for over thirty years until she passed almost three years ago. Prayer is powerful! Never give up on your godless, rebelling, children as God is faithful and listens to your prayers.
Thank you; I really enjoyed this. God Bless!
Wow. So great.

Amen

Thank you Pastor Nat, I am so happy and thankful for what Jesus did for me at Calvary, and now I am on the "narrow " way that leads to everlasting life! "I've decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back!"
I would like to share a song the Lord gave me a while ago. Thank you Pastor Nat...and our Great and loving God! Come As You Are VM JN 11/15/09 Acts 3:19-20Heb 7:24-25 VERSE 1 You don’t have to clean up your life To come before His throne As hard as you try you quickly learn You can’t do it on your own VERSE 2 Can’t earn your way through heaven’s gate For man’s ways crooked, God’s is straight Hard as you try, you still fall short Perfection’s the standard to enter His court CHORUS So friend’s come as You are, come as you are By the power of His Spirit, He will make you new So come as You are, the Lord is calling You VERSE 3 It seems so hopeless, that would be true If we get to heaven by what we do But God’s love changed each sinner’s fate Come as you are. Don’t hesitate CHORUS x 2 & ENDING So friend’s come as You are, come as you are By the power of His Spirit, He will make you new So come as you are, the Lord is calling you Repeat to End Come as you are, the Lord in calling You
Father please keep leading me on the right path. I want to follow your will in Jesus name Amen
Truth...Amen, by the grace and help of God.
I have know the Lord a long time but have just had my eyes opened that I have been doing life in my own power....thankyou
Thank you Jesus for the way, the truth and the life you showed us on the CROSS OF CALVARY.
Thank you Jesus for my salvation. And for your word.
Only Jesus could die for our sins. Sins lead to death, your or Jesus. Jesus is the only way because if God wants his justice to be satisfied then sin must be punished. There is no other way. Thank you Jesus for dying for me so I may enter into heaven. Amen
Thank You Father for being so good to me and always being there for me
Jesus not only died for our sins but also to crucify our sin nature. A second work of grace that eradicated that bent toward sin. I’m so glad for the scripture that you examined more closely today. Thank you!
Thank you pastor and I thank the Almighty God
Thank you Pastor very good expository on the subject of narrow mindedness.
Jesus is the only way to the Father. 'No one cometh to the Father but by me'
Basic human trait is lawlessness. Restrictions like narrow path is not acceptable to him. Broad and unrestricted way to God is preferred by the majority and more tend to follow them. It is thought provoking. Thank you.
