Mature in Christ - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Mature in Christ

April 15

Read Colossians 1:27-28

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.

Reflect

What is the role of the church in the lives of believers?

Think back to when you first became a believer in Christ and compare that with where you are right now. How have you changed? How have you grown in your understanding of who Jesus is and what He has done for you?

I know that I am not the same person I was when I first accepted Christ. My understanding of the Gospel, the doctrines of the church, and my understanding of the Scriptures have grown immensely. First, I attribute that growth to the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. He has changed me from the inside out.

But I would be remiss not to consider and be grateful for the people that God has chosen to work through in my faith journey. Over the years, God has placed pastors, professors, friends, and family in my life to proclaim Christ to me, to warn me about sin and its consequences, and to teach me wisdom. I owe my (still growing) maturity in Christ to everyone who has been faithful to do what God has commanded them to do—preach and teach the Word of God.

The church is called to equip the saints. Jesus didn’t say “go and make converts”. He said to make disciples. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). To be a disciple is to be a learner. In order to be a learner, we need teachers. It is the church's job to teach the Word of God to the saints so that they learn, grow and are equipped to be sent out to do the same.

Friends, we are called to make disciples and to work to present everyone mature in Christ. If you are a new believer, I encourage you to seek the discipleship of a more mature believer who can walk alongside you and help you grow in your knowledge and understanding of your Christian faith. If you are a more mature believer, is there someone in your life that you are feeling led to disciple?

Pray

God, thank You for the people that You have placed in my life who have helped me to grow up in my faith and become more like Christ. I want to be a disciple of Christ, a life-long learner and follower of His teachings. Help me continue to grow and show me how I can help grow the faith of those around me. Amen.

Thank you to all 🙏🙏🙏❤

Thank you for sharing, John. One of Satan's tactics is to get us to look at other people and compare. What we need to do is ask ourselves how God views us. I know I could always "do better" or "be better off" if I compare to other people and/or ministry leaders. But that's not what God wants us to do get sidelined by the comparison trap. I'm convinced, John, that God has you right where he wants you. The "pastor" has a harder time reaching the lost than the everyday Christian does. I say that because ministry can be so inward-focused, it can distract us from outreach. So we have to be very intentional about living life with extra awareness and intentionality. So, I encourage you to keep living on purpose where you are at. God has you right where he wants you! thank you for being part of our GT family!
Love this.
When we grow in Christ Jesus, we are maturing in Christ Jesus.
AMEN. LORD I need Help to grow. In Jesus Christ name please send help my way as I go on this journey thanks I love you Lord.
Lord, I do appreciate and thank You for all the people You have put in my life to help me with my walk, my journey in faith and understanding. Thank You also for the Holy Spirit that has and is leading and guiding me in my daily life. Thank You Lord for assuring that I have all I need to be Christ like and be able to make it home to glory to be with You. I love You. In Christ Jesus name I pray, Amen.
"He that has begun a Good work in me will continue to do it unto the day of redemption" One of my favorite verses - Philippians 1:6 - for salvation is a one shot deal but sanctification in a lifetime -as I like to say. Or as Joyce Myers says "I'm Changing, I'm Changing just the enemy says I'm not changing - I Know I'm Changing! I'm not where I want to be but thank God I'm not where I used to be - I'm OK and I'm on my way! Blessings, J
Don't let the people of this world stop you from spreading the word and the truth they tried to stop jesus when he came with the truth to tell them they was doing it wrong if they hated jesus they will hate you no one is above the the teacher and that is jesus keep pushing that gospel God got you covered
John, I believe the hate mail is the enemy's attack b/c his goal is to silence you and destroy your ministry. The persecution that missionaries face in other countries is no different than the persecution that Christians are facing here in the US other than the stakes are higher. I want to encourage you to be courageous and bold even in the face of persecution in whatever form it takes. I'm speaking to myself here as much as I am to you.
Good words and story!
John, God had and still has a ministry for you. Anyone can be faithful to God in making disciples. All it takes is an open heart and mind to follow God's leading.
I'll try to make this as short as I can. I'm 64yrs old and been saved for 47yrs. I don't remember a lot of things, but I wish I was a missionary for the Lord. My dad preached on the radio, my uncles were missionaries, my brothers preached when asked, cousins are missionaries too. What happened to me I don't know. Complete failure maybe. I felt good sharing on Facebook until politics got in the way and getting some hate mail so I deleted Facebook. I know missionaries risk their lives and family to share the gospel, so why shouldn't I. You know sharing this with ya'll has made me feel better. May the Lord bless each and every one of us, keep praying and sharing His word.🙏🙏🙏
Glory be to God. Truth...Amen, by the grace and help of God through Christ.
Amen
Father, by the Blood and sacrifice of Your Son, we called to be His disciples, to share the Gospel - the good news of the death and resurrection of our Christ - and to glorify You. We ask, Father, for the courage to be Your Son’s faithful disciples in this age and for the Holy Spirit to guide us to those who are in need of Your mercy. Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ!!! Amen...
Thank you, Lord. Amen.
Let us spur one another on to love and good works. The Lord blessed us so we can bless others. A great joy that Jesus has given us is the gift of sharing. He said it is better to give than receive. Why for joy comes in sharing. Jesus help us to come to you daily to receive our daily bread do we can share your love and light to your present and future people. For your glory Jesus. Amen
