He Keeps His Promises - Your Daily Forward Devotional

He Keeps His Promises

December 4

<br>

Read Luke 1:68-70

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has come to His people and redeemed them. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as He said through His holy prophets of long ago)...

Reflect

What prophecies concerning Jesus from the Old Testament come to your mind when you read this passage?

One of my favorite things to reflect on during the Advent season is the faithfulness of God. I look forward to reading passages of Old Testament Scripture that point to Jesus as our Savior. There are numerous prophecies concerning the birth of the Messiah. The prophet Isaiah made one very specific prophecy more than 700 years before Jesus was born. “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and will call His name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).  Well before Jesus’s birth, the Scriptures foretold that He would be born of a virgin.

Even before Isaiah’s prophecy, we knew from God’s covenant with David that this Messiah would come from the house of David. In 2 Samuel 7, God promised David that His dynasty would never end. Someone from David’s line would always reign. Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of that promise.

But God’s promise that the Messiah would be born of a woman goes back even farther than David. It goes back to the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve sinned against God, He cursed the serpent and said, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers, He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel.” Back at the very beginning, God promised that He’d send someone born of a woman to save humanity. Satan might strike His heel (Jesus’s death), but Jesus would crush Satan’s head. Jesus’s resurrection ensures the victory, and His second coming will finish Satan off for good.

Friends, God keeps His promises. Just as His holy prophets foretold long before Jesus was born, each prophecy that proclaimed His coming was fulfilled. Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel. He keeps His promises.

Pray

Father, thank You for Your promises. Even though we can’t fathom all that You are doing, You are working out Your purposes as we wait for You to come again. You deserve all the glory, honor, and praise. Amen.

Hey David. Thank you for the compliment and the feedback. I hope people feel that way about these 5 minute Bible teaching. I want them to dig deeper. Regarding this particular teaching, here is a full-sermon I recently gave on this passage: https://www.facebook.com/368096884299/videos/649769375734713 When Theodore Epp began this ministry in 1939 he wanted to reach the lost in the most effective way possible. That meant radio and long-form Bible teaching. We believe in seasons as God designed seasons. And we never want to replace the local church. So for a season, we've moved to short-form, daily discipleship. We desire to engage the unengaged and move them closer to Jesus. We've found that short-form, learner-centered discipleship is the best method today. If you want to dig deeper (and we encourage you to do so), check out our daily Bible-teaching if you haven't already done so: https://explore.backtothebible.app/back-to-the-bible/daily-bible-teaching-broadcasts. Stand firm. Stand faithful. Stand on God's Word! ~Pastor Nat

A great question. We pray in Jesus' name because Jesus said in John 14:13-14, "Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it." We get the privilege of doing this, but it's not a magic formula. So, when we do this we are identifying ourselves with His son and with His authority and power. But should we not conclude it this way, we shouldn't feel like it's making bread without the yeast. If we are in right standing with God, He hears our prayers and is inclined to answer...in His time in His way to accomplish His purpose.
Amen
Timely remainder
Thank you Jesus
Thank you Lord, I'm anxiosly waiting for your return!

Thank you for sharing this blessed reminder. What a comfort to know we serve a God that cannot and does not lie and ALWAYS keeps His word. If God makes a promise, He will do exactly what He said and we should believe it no matter what we see in the natural world, God is at work on our behalf so we can overcome and be victorious.

I love this reading, it is so comforting to know that our God of heaven and earth don't forget his promises. All that was prophesied about the MESSIAH coming to earth, his death, burial and resurrection was fulfilled. What a wonderful feeling to know that Jesus triumphed over death and the grave and crushed the head of that old dragon, Satan. Praise the Lord., he's worthy to be praised.. God bless and keep you Pastor Nat and your teachings.
