God’s Will Be Done - Your Daily Forward Devotional

God’s Will Be Done

October 21

Read Mathew 6:9-10

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.

Reflect: How does God’s fatherhood and kingship impact how you pray?

One evening, I was reading the news about a recent presidential debate. The state of our country was weighing heavily on my mind. I began to wonder what kind of America my kids were going to grow up in. I started making a list in my head of all the wrongs I would pray for God to right in our country.

As I tucked my kids into bed, we prayed the Lord’s Prayer together. And I realized that in my concern for my country, I might be missing the point.

Do you remember that Jesus’s disciples missed the point, too? They were living under Roman oppression and they thought Jesus was there to set them free. Jesus was there to set them free, but not from the Roman Empire. At least, not in the way they thought He would.

Jesus did not come to overthrow Caesar and become an earthly king that would fix the political problems of their time. Many called Him “King of the Jews”. Some hoped that He would restore the kingdom of Israel in the dynasty of David. Others were afraid that He would overthrow their political power. Before He ascended to heaven, the disciples asked him, “Lord is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” They were wrapped up in earthly politics instead of the spiritual kingdom Jesus had established. The kingdom of God was at hand because of the divine rule Jesus had in believer’s hearts, not because He was now establishing His literal kingdom. That is still a future event.

I wonder how many Americans have also missed the point. Are we so busy praying for the future of our country that we forget to pray for God’s will and His Kingdom to come? Don’t misunderstand me. In the Scriptures, we see numerous models of God’s people fervently praying for their nation and we would do well to do the same for ours.

But we can’t lose sight of the reality that God’s kingdom is still coming. His kingdom is the only perfect kingdom. The best possible kingdom for ourselves and our children.

God can surely act for our country’s benefit in response to our prayers for America. And I hope He does. We should definitely participate by serving in our communities and voting. But remember, we should be praying for His kingdom to come and His will to be done, not ours.

God, I love America and I pray that You would bless it and restore unity to us. But I know that Your Kingdom and Your Will are greater than any worldly nation or political system. Keep my eyes fixed on Your Kingdom issues and my heart set on eternity. Amen.

Dear LORD...please let YOUR will be done YOUR perfect will be done in my life and those around me and please get the people out to vote for righteousness1
God let you will be done
Our Father Who arts in Heaven, hollowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the Kingdom, power and glory forever, Amen.
Beautiful and humbling.
In Jesus name, Amen Thank You, Jesus All glory and honor to You
With reference and honor, he is a Holy God. Most of all he name will be hallowed is the best of reference can be praying to God.
Thy Kingdom come, Lord Jesus, and Thy will be done. Take my eyes off of what I can see and fix my gaze on those things that are heavenly. Amen.
God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. He will not forsake us.
It’s really all we can do. Pray for God’s will for country and for the best candidate to insure God’s will for all Americans. Change is the only constant in this life.
Father you are a sovereign God ! You placed mighty Kings and took them away as well ! The same applies to our President! Thy will be done !! In Jesus name I pray Amen ✝️🙏🇺🇸
This is profound and amazing! Thank you Back to the Bible. I humbly suggest this change for the last line of the prayer: “Keep my eyes fixed on YOUR Kingdom and my heart set on YOUR eternity Amen”
I love this; thank you. Let us all pray...and vote. God Bless.
Turn your eyes upon JESUS. He is the ONLY cure to ALL of our ills. Thank you JESUS 🙏❣️
Thank you
Yes, thank you for this precious insight, Pastor Nat!
Amen🙏 ! God's perfect be done!
Good reminder.
So true..
Yes God uses nations to do his will and we as believers must pray for our nation and its leaders. And we must pray that all those people we know who love Jesus to show their light of love in this world so others will come to the light of the knowledge of the love and forgiveness of the Lord. Nations come and go according to God’s plan but a believer in Jesus lives forever! Thank you Jesus. Amen
This is so profound Pastor Nat.. We should keep in mind that this world and their kingdoms will pass away but God's kingdom is coming.. Amen
Right on time! Praying. Amen
Agree, just don't want the little light that shines as a witness in this country to be snuffed out entirely, but God is in control no matter what and His will is going to be done. He will allow what's best.
Amen Lord yes keep my eyes on your KINGDOM.
I pray that god puts in the direction , that we need to be ,Peace, love, and unity with each other. Without Dreams we reach nothing, without love we feel nothing, and without God we are Nothing! Amen to that!
Thank you pastor Nat and thank God for giving us another opportunity of life Amen
It is so important and at times difficult to find a balance in these times. We can’t despair if good does not prevail. We will continue to battle in prayer, love God and love our neighbor. But I get frustrated with pastors when they don’t seem to have any concern for political things. Remember politics these days means standing up for the rights of the unborn, standing against the drug epidemic killing young people and keeping our right to preach the gospel in the public square. We are passionate for a Godly reason. We pray Gods will be done, but we need to lovingly strive for what is right. We need to vote and lovingly express our concerns. But above all pray and trust God.
Amen and amen Gods will be done
Thank you Nat. A great reminder right now.
Dear Lord, thank you for keeping me focused on spiritual perspective, l love America to restore. But I am focus on god kingdom and to spend eternity with him. In Jesus’s name, amen. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for this wonderful reminder! It is so easy to be caught up in ‘here and now’ issues and forget God has the whole picture perspective.
Thanks Pastor for helping us to keep things in perspective.
Many of us lose sight and think of our will be done on earth. But it should be God's will. We must remember that Israelites and we are the same as for God is concerned. They didn't want God ruling them and they rejected God outright and opted for earthly kings. We too don't like God's will inwardly. I don't pray for my political will. I give to to His sovereignty .He said He is the king maker on the earth. The devotional is thoughtful and apt. Thank you.
