Fear is a Robber - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Fear is a Robber

With Tiffany Crawford

June 12, 2020

Have you been robbed? I have.

I remember being robbed about two years ago. You see, our youngest son was diagnosed with epilepsy. I was continually being robbed by fear and worry. I kept focusing on the situation, and I let fear rob me of my time and attention.

You see, fear is a robber. Fear robs us of precious moments with our families. It robs us of the peace that God promises us. Fear is a robber. Fear robbed me until I refocused on God’s Word.

Proverbs 12:25 says, “Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.”

Fear robs. Fear creates shackles that paralyze. That’s what this proverb is saying. When we focus on fear and embrace the anxiety that comes with it, we become paralyzed. It’s as if we can’t think. We can’t think. We can’t act.

What’s the alternative? Focusing on truth and, as the writer says, “a good word.”

There is no better Word of Truth than the Bible. When I’m feeling anxious and worried, I know God’s Word has a message for me, and I know He has a message for you.

A message I frequently turn to is 1 Peter 5:7, which says, when you’re facing fear, throw it on God. Why? Because He cares for you.

So today, don’t focus on the worry. Turn to God’s Word. Turn to God and allow Him to carry the load.

Text in Context: Read Proverbs 12.

Reflect: Collectively, what do these proverbs say about the power of words? What’s the connection between our words and our works (v. 14)?

Respond: How do words impact you? What’s the best word of encouragement you’ve ever received? How can you encourage someone who’s facing a hard time?

Prayer: Father, you are the giver of truth. Help me to cling to your Word and less to the lies of the world. Amen.

We look forward to your comments, questions, and prayers in these devotionals!

This was an awesome Devotion I will be praying for you and everyone with you that God may continue to bless you in a special way thanks for everything and please don’t stop
Praise be to GOD for all things but the small things are so precious. We are a brown family that has lived across the street from a beautiful non brown family for more than seven years with very little exchange. It has always been uncomfortable making conversation in passing of our busy and daily lives. One day my wife gave there daughter a small card and gift for graduation. The reaction and gratitude to this small action was amazing , it open the door to each family. If we do small things GOD will bless our giving.
Words have power to either destroy and corrupt, or encourage and heal. Verse 14 instructs that our words and our works are linked; out of the infilling of our hearts we will act: "From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things, and the work of their hands brings them reward." I feel encouraged when someone lets me know how my good deed or witness has blessed or benefit them. I find also that being "present" helps those having a hard time, while letting them know someone cares.
Let us cast our cares upon the Lord because He cares....fear is of the devil he tries to paralyze us with fear when we face difficulties...but perfect LOVE cast out all fears....let us be bold by loving each other pray for each other and put the devil to shame in Jesus name 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Yes fear is a strong motivator to cause action often not Godly. Trusting Jesus and his word is a way to glorify him and receive his peace. Fear the Lord and not all the events in the world in which he is Lord. Fear that Jesus will leave you is a strong fear but his word says he will never leave us. The one who we should fear is our savior and friend. If God is for us who can be against us? No one! Thank you Jesus. Amen
Thank you Lord for your word today. I sometimes fear my son's moods he's a paranoid schizophrenia and from day to day 2 years ago I never knew if I would see my son or his illness and fear almost took me out of this world. But I'm thankful and I'm grateful God has blessed as nd protected me for 24 years. My son is some better now but every now and than he stills gets moody for no reason and when he does i listen to the Lord when he tells me to be quiet and just pray and soon after my son calms down and comes and apologizes to me something he didn't use to do. Please keep me and my son in your prayers because I don't want to live in fear anymore it paralyzing you.
Today I choose to cast my cares& concerns on the Lord.
So true AMEN
I really appreciate this passage today. With all that’s going on in the world today it’s very easy to fear the unknown. I myself am guilty of fearing what is next for mankind. Today I am giving all my fear to God because it’s only keeping me in bondage and not allowing me to see the big picture that God has for me and my family. Thank you so much for these wonderful words of encouragement. Be Blessed
