Falling in Love with God Again - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Falling in Love with God Again

Published 3/12/2020

Read John 1:14

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. ”

What is meant by “the Word became flesh”?

I’ll never forget what a friend once asked, “Have you ever read the Bible all the way through?”
I couldn’t answer yes.

Then she went on to say, “I’m a Christ-follower, yet I haven’t made the Bible a daily part of my life … and that’s pathetic. What if Christianity isn’t what I think it is? What if it’s better? What if my image of God isn’t the right one? I really want the truth, so I’m trying not to read any other books as I focus on the Bible.”

My friend’s advice opened my eyes. And the work God was doing in my life was transformational. He wasn’t leading me into mere Bible reading. He was compelling me to engage His letters with the passion of a lover. He was showing me how to find my Savior in the pages of Scripture … and how to have “a daily walk with this person Jesus.”

I was no longer afraid to open up the pages of Scripture. Engaging God’s Word wasn’t the dreaded chore it once was. I was falling in love with the Lord’s call on my life: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20, The Message).
Mostly, I was falling in love with God again.

Lord, I want to hear You clearly. I need Your guidance. Amen.

I don't want to preach the gospel of my Lord like a duty, but genuinely and truthly.

I fear that God's promises weren't keep for me according to GOD'S words. Has damaged my faith extremely hard. I have been hurt and mislead badly. I once believed in a God of kept promises. I find it extremely hard to believe all the way. Feeling very lost and disguarded.

Dear Mark,
I know how difficult life can be. Although I do not know you, there is pain in your post. Do not give up! God is often silent in our deepest struggles. Dont let that discourage you. He has chosen you. He is a covenant keeping God. He will not fail you. He will carry you. Pour out your heart to Him. Be honest wit Him. He can handle it. He is your loving father. He knows very heartache and every fear. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
I am praying for you.
