Faith When You Don’t Feel Safe

August 18

Read Psalm 91: 4-6

He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

Reflect

What are you afraid of? Do you have any fears that you need to take to the Lord in order to find peace?

I was scrolling through social media today and one thing became very apparent. Many of us do not feel safe. We are worried about many things. These are scary times.

But is the world scarier than it has ever been before? Probably not. The world has been full of sin, evil, violence, sickness, and death since the fall. Still, that doesn’t mean that our fears are not warranted.

I am not attempting to minimize our fears. In fact, I believe that the reason God told us to not be afraid so many times in Scripture is because He knew that we would have good reasons to be afraid! He wanted us to know that He would be with us.

Psalm 91 is one of my favorite Psalms to read when I struggle with anxiety. I picture sitting in the “shadow of the Almighty” (verse 1) and being covered with His feathers, safe under His wings (verse 4). If God is with me, what do I have to be afraid of?

“‘Because he loves me,’ says the LORD, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect Him, for He acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer Him; I will be with Him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.’” (Psalm 91: 14-16)

If you are struggling with fear right now, please know that Jesus is with you. You are not alone. No matter what happens here on earth, He will show His salvation to those who love Him and acknowledge His name. You are safe in the shadow of His wings.

Pray

Lord, when I am afraid, help me to feel Your presence. Remind me that You are with me. I know that because You are with me, I am safe. Amen.

Every day that our Lord gives us, i suppose that the Lord waits for our petitions and his blessings are new for every need. Although it is true o Lord your presence is the best of all things.

As a child playing in the hay barn occasionally I would find a hen that had stole her nest away and hatched some little chicks. She would make a clucking call and they would all run under her wing for protection. Sometimes when I am anxious and afraid I remember the old hen covering her chicks with her wings and am reminded God covers me with his wings of love.

Fear usage is still being used to make people behave or change their attitude about themselves and others. I was so shaken when I was young in church when theses visiting preachers came to make converts of any unbelievers.I didn't know at the time that they would have such mean spirited ways of making people afraid by using hell & brimstone and then they would convert people...is this what Christianity is about ... I don't think so but sure made themselves who preached such to think more highly of themselves. . I sure didn't convert yet was frozen with such words of fear from a fallen Adamic natural I couldn't move anyway!! My would God open the eyes of those who preach such ways ..when I finally got a grip on the meaning of fear ,I was shocked at the misuse of word, I wasn't a believer and using only my fallen fleshly thinking was not about to trust their words and even myself wouldn't be moved , the use of goads continue?

The Gospel as found in John 3:16 is that God loves us. When Adam sinned we all fell but God made a way back to himself through Jesus. Go

As a young child is fearless in his loving father’s arms; I will fear no evil for my Heavenly Father is with me.

The Lord is my refuge, I shall fear no one even in the mist of the troubled world.
