Faith When You Don’t Feel Safe
Read Psalm 91: 4-6
He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
What are you afraid of? Do you have any fears that you need to take to the Lord in order to find peace?
I was scrolling through social media today and one thing became very apparent. Many of us do not feel safe. We are worried about many things. These are scary times.
But is the world scarier than it has ever been before? Probably not. The world has been full of sin, evil, violence, sickness, and death since the fall. Still, that doesn’t mean that our fears are not warranted.
I am not attempting to minimize our fears. In fact, I believe that the reason God told us to not be afraid so many times in Scripture is because He knew that we would have good reasons to be afraid! He wanted us to know that He would be with us.
Psalm 91 is one of my favorite Psalms to read when I struggle with anxiety. I picture sitting in the “shadow of the Almighty” (verse 1) and being covered with His feathers, safe under His wings (verse 4). If God is with me, what do I have to be afraid of?
“‘Because he loves me,’ says the LORD, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect Him, for He acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer Him; I will be with Him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.’” (Psalm 91: 14-16)
If you are struggling with fear right now, please know that Jesus is with you. You are not alone. No matter what happens here on earth, He will show His salvation to those who love Him and acknowledge His name. You are safe in the shadow of His wings.
Lord, when I am afraid, help me to feel Your presence. Remind me that You are with me. I know that because You are with me, I am safe. Amen.
