Engage the Bible

May 25, 2020

Read Matthew 7:24

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (NIV)

Reflect

Why is it important to respond to God’s Word—putting what He says into practice?

I believe what the Bible says about itself: “For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does” (Psalm 33:4). And the man once known as our nation’s pastor helped me to keep the right perspective. Dr. Billy Graham said this about God’s Word: “The Bible is old; yet it is ever new. It is the most modern book in the world today.” This ancient Book is far from out-of-date, and to all who read and love the Bible, it is relevant for our generation.

I believe that being in God’s Word daily and consistently—at least four or more times a week—and putting His teachings and commandments into practice can make a difference in the way I connect with God. While this may sound a bit simplistic, it all boils down to two simple principles:

I need to stop merely reading the Bible and start engaging it: This means pondering what God says, chewing on His Word, and savoring His truths. It’s essential that I receive, reflect on, and respond to God’s Word consistently.

I need to pay close attention to the frequency of Bible engagement: Specifically, engaging Scripture four or more times per week makes the biggest difference. Why? The more I spend time with someone, the closer we become. It’s the same way with God.

Pray

Lord, help me to grow closer to You. Help me to engage Your Word daily. Amen.

We look forward to your comments, questions, and prayers in these devotionals!

It is wise to engage or practice God's word; because, you will be building on a solid foundation that is unmovable and ever standing.
I have enjoyed reading all the great comments! II Peter 3:18 says but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. I have read the Bible for many years now and one thing I have learned That it is Spiritual impossible for the Christian to read God’s Holy Word and not be lifted up and encouraged in a very Powerful way! And as some has already quoted He.4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful. And sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Amen! Lord help to get closer to You ! ✝️🙏
Yes I agree learning and leaning on God is very important And very vital to our walk with the Lord.
This devotional adds even more punch to Matt. 11:28-30, when Christ says in vs.29, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls". The emphasis is placed on, "learn of me". Also, looking forward, and back to the 2 Emma'-us disciples, Christ expounds unto them (and, to us) that from Moses and all the prophets, and all the Scriptures are the things concerning Him. (Luke 24:25-27)
I know that my faith, and hope is in Jesus Christ, he is the rock of my salvation. This is called the Solid Rock.
"Reading and meditating on God's Word is nourishment for the soul, just as food is for the body". This allows us to grow and mature spiritually. "For the Word of God is alive an active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart". (Hebrews 4 v12). Lord, empower/help me to meditate more upon Your Word. Grant me wisdom and understanding to apply it in my life and daily living. Amen!
Thank you Lord Jesus for always being there for me each and every day. You’re tender loving care for all of us is priceless. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11 KJV
Reading and meditating on the Bible is like being a tree whose is planted by a living river where it’s roots reach down to the river and it is nourished everyday and produces much fruit of righteousness. Thank you Jesus for being the living water found in the Bible. Amen
Dear Father God, please help me to not just see the words written down in the bible but to hear them as well..Open my heart and mind more each day..In Jesus name ..Amen
