Don’t Be Foolish

July 7, 2020

Read Psalm 14: 1-2

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

According to these verses, what is foolishness? What is the opposite of this foolishness?

I do not usually associate being foolish with being wicked. Lacking intelligence? Maybe. Ignorant? Sure. But wicked? However, the fools David referred to in this Psalm were just that.

What makes a foolish person wicked? Verse one says a fool denies God’s existence and is corrupt. When someone denies God, they live contrary to how God tells us to live. In fact, that is often the motivation for denying God’s existence in the first place. A fool says, “I want to live however I want. I don’t want God telling me what to do.”

That isn’t just denial, it’s defiance. We should know that living in defiance to God will have severe consequences. It is the definition of foolishness to know the definite negative consequences of an action and yet proceed anyway. In this case, the consequence is judgment and everlasting torment. Only a fool would pursue that!

So what is the opposite of foolishness? Wisdom. Psalm 111:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, all who follow his precepts have good understanding…” Wisdom acknowledges God, gives Him the respect that He is worthy of, and seeks to follow His commands.

In Psalm 14, verse 2, the LORD is looking down from heaven for someone who understands and seeks God. The LORD is looking for someone who is wise.

Wisdom is the fear of the LORD and folly is denying Him. Are you living wisely?

Lord, I want to live wisely. Help me to follow your commands and walk in obedience to you. Amen.

I pray daily for the one's who don't know God and become wise and seek after Him because they don't know what they are missing. He's awesome, loving, compassionate and etc.
I am praying that you continue to grow closer to God and trust him more and more each day!
I lived my 53 years of my life without God and doing whatever I wanted not believing in God because of all my losses. I lost my dad when I was just 19 years old and my big brother a couple of years later to turn around and my left me with my two kids and was so angry and hurt. But then finally woke up and got saved October 6 2019 and I can't say my life is any easier but I have been blessed and now truly believe in God. Not fully understanding everything I am learning every day that God does truly love me. I thank Jesus today for not giving up on me and saving this old soul. In the name of Jesus, Amen
God help 🙏 me walk obedience to you word
Heavenly Father, we praise you and thank you for who you are, and what you have done for us! Thank you for loving our Pastor's wife Joyce so much and for healing her from all infirmities which caused so much pain in her body. Thank you for keeping her strong, trusting in your healing power to make her whole, given her the opportunity to testify of your goodness, faithfulness & love, to all those whom she comes in contact with. In Jesus name. Amen!
Psalm 14:2 This should be my prayer, when the Lord is looking down to see that someone is praying for wisdom from God.
the use of LORD tells me this passage was intended for those under law and not grace, a big difference when Christ lives in us and forgiven all our sins, made us righteous, blameless, born of God and ready for heaven ..that's just a taste of New Covenant , at the cross and beyond cross ... thanks

Thank You!
We all have the tendency to do our own things because we often want to prove our selves but in God's eyes we don't have to and that is why we are given the bible as a guideline our spiritual GPS to guide us in the way God desires and If ignore God's word then we are fool indeed but in order to be wise we have to trust in the Spirit of God for guidance.
May I walk wisely.
Amen! Lord, I pray for wisdom and understanding to live wisely, walk uprightly, and to be obedient to Your instructions. Help me not to become foolish. When I stumble, strengthen and keep me close to You.
Good and encouraging, thank you for the Holy Sprit to help me to walk in your obedience!
Amen. Lord help me to live the way you want me to live.
Good word
We have all gone astray and want to be our own god. But because of his great mercy and grace while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. We have been given sight to see God’s truth and become his children learning by faith to trust in him and therefore to begin to become wise. Thank you Jesus. Amen
Amen !!!
Since God's ways are not our ways ,we can be foolish unless we acknowledge God's word superior to everything else.
Thank you . Your ministry is God’s send to us. Because of the crisis going on I am blessed and lift up my spirit..
Great Word today. Lots of self proclaimed "atheists" I come across on social media.
I think there are some who would take advice from an atheist in this country, rather than from a Christian. I would consider that foolish!
