Declare His Glory
Read Psalm 96:3 (ESV)
Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!
When you hear the words “outreach” and “evangelism” what do you think of?
I don’t know about you but when I think of evangelism, I often think of someone like Billy Graham. He dedicated his life to telling others the Gospel. In fact, he made a career out of it. And he was good at it. He knew exactly what to say.
Frankly, that is intimidating to many Christians. Is that what Jesus meant when He told us to go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19)? Do we have to be a career evangelist to tell people about Jesus? Do we all have to be missionaries to be on a mission? No!
We are all called to tell others about Jesus Christ. Today’s psalm tells us to “declare His glory among the nations.” We do not need a script to tell of “His marvelous works among the peoples.” When we evangelize, we are simply telling others how great our God is and what He has done for us.
I am reminded of the story of the woman at the well in John 4. Jesus revealed Himself to her as the Messiah. After her encounter with the Lord, she rushed into town to tell the townspeople, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” (John 4:29). And so many people did. In fact, in verse 39 we read, “many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony”.
Friends, we don’t all have to be eloquent, well-spoken, and famous with a huge platform to be an evangelist. We just have to be willing to share what God has done with the people in our lives. What has God done in your life? What marvelous works do you know to be from the Lord? How have you been changed because of Him? We aren’t responsible for the outcome. We don’t have the power to save anyone. That is God’s job. It is our job to simply “declare His glory”!
God, You are glorious. You have done great things for me and You are worthy to be praised. Give me the confidence and courage that I need to share You with those around me. You are the Good News that the world needs to hear. Amen.
