Connect with Your Creator - Your Daily Forward Devotional

Connect with Your Creator

June 8, 2020

Read 1 Corinthians 13:12-13

“We don’t yet see things clearly: We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright. We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us. But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love” (The Message).

What helps you to connect with God?

Face it, you’re busy. So, like a lot of people, you probably sail through Scripture in a hurry. (Maybe you’re doing that right now.) But if you want to truly connect with your Creator in a meaningful way, stop merely “reading” your Bible … and start engaging it.

As we chew on Scripture—receiving it, reflecting on it, and responding to it—and as we work our way through some honest questions, our masks come off and we begin talking to the Lord on a deeper, more substantive level.

Two things must happen:

We must ponder God’s Word deep in our hearts. We do this with a passage of Scripture until the Lord’s personal message has “gone right into you and taken possession of you”—as Bonhoeffer said. This is the level at which intimacy unfolds in a way that has the potential to change us in the deepest places of our being.

We must allow God to grow our faith in a way that’s unique to each one of us. Engaging the Bible this way doesn’t involve the impersonal formulas and the rigorous, intellectual studies that I was used to. We don’t have to cram our heads with Bible facts, fill in the blanks of study guides, and check off “Bible-in-a-year” reading plans. While these traditional approaches are good at times—they certainly engage our brain—they don’t always connect our hearts in a love relationship with the one, true God of the Scriptures.

Slow down, “chew on” Bible truth, savoring each “bite.” Engage God’s Word and connect with your Creator.

Lord, I want a two-way conversation with You. Speak to me through Your Word. Help me to connect with You in a deeper, more meaningful way. Amen.

We look forward to your comments, questions, and prayers in these devotionals!

I must not forgot about love, love has more better understand, with life with the Lord.
I have always been a "check the box" person, whether I am keeping a food log, reading daily devotions, or doing anything that requires daily discipline. The boxes help me to get it done. I have never read the Bible from cover to cover, and this year I am doing that for the very first time, so daily check boxes are helping to keep me on track. Even with a "check box" mentality to start with, I am becoming open to so much more knowledge about the Word of God, and this fact, along with life events of recent years, is bringing me to have a real personal relationship with God unlike anything I have ever experienced before. I have found that He is meeting me at my check box and wants to take me so much deeper than that! God is patient, kind, loving, and forgiving, and He is willing to meet me right where I am. He is also helping me to go much deeper than by helping me to pray much more often and have a dialogue and a relationship with Him that so much deeper than checking the boxes could ever be. Please pray for me that I continue to seek a true, loving, personal relationship with God and forget about checking the boxes just so that I can know I checked the boxes.
This is definitely food for the soul to ponder on. I want to grow and connect with God in a way that is so intimate. My biggest fear is for God to say that he never knew me. I am making a choice to dig into his words, to grow my relationship with God. I look forward to the day that my God says well done thy good and faithful servant 🙏🏽💜
Lord, I ask for direction and understanding in your word
Psalm 139 seems to speak directly to my heart. I love reading about God's thoughts about me. This scripture says God's thoughts of us are too numerous to count.
I have always reflect on Psalms 121 as a personal word., however due to recent events in my life I am now drawn to Psalms 46:5., So I remind myself daily that God is within me I will not fall and therefore I keep reading his word to abide in him..
Amidst this pandemic, my faith deepened. My favorite psalm is Psalm 23. The Lord is my Shepherd....
Father God help me to understand the Bible in my reading! It’s your living word! I I’m in the word on a daily basis and at this time in my Christian walk I should be more mature! I should have a better mind set and more Christ like in my thoughts! ! Thank You in Jesus name I pray amen
Hey Gregory. Thanks for your input. I personally prefer the NASB and ESV. Regardless, sometimes we use different versions to capture an idea the text is conveying. Regarding the names of God, God has many names many descriptors based on His character. So, true, Creator is not an official name of God, but it is an accurate title. And as you rightly identified, Jesus has a unique place in creation. Colossians 1:15-20 captures this beautifully, "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross." Great contribution, Gregory! Thank you!
Thank you for these devotionals, they are encouraging.
Lord help me engage in your Word, I want a deeper relationship with you. In Jesus name. AMEN
I, like many others, need to slow down and absorb more. Lord open my mind & heart to better understanding.
Thanks for sharing this today. Yes, we have to spend time in the Word to get to know Who God is, to hear from Him, love and trust Him, and walk in obedience. "Love = Obedience" (John 14v15) " If you love Me keep my commandments". Lord, help me to meditate on Your Word night and day, so I can know You more intimately, growing in love maturity.
This really speaks volumes to me. I do "rush" through my devotionals and focus on a five minute, at best, conversation with God. Turning to the Bible is very....I don't do it very often. I will start that again and keep making more and more time with God. I will chew on every bite of His word. Father, thank you for your Word. Amen
I’m very well aware that Jesus is the Creator. I really prefer using the King James translation. To use Creator all the time is not a good idea. Jesus is the Creator. Jesus is his Greek name. His Hebrew name is Yeshua. Other people read the comments section. Can you use the KJV? I do not have God’s peace always using Creator. Yes, he is the Creator, however, that is not His name. All prayer to God is to be completed in Jesus name (Yeshua). It is my hope that you nice people can understand. The Message Bible is not the best translation.
I definitely need to slow down and really meditate on God’s word and spend intentional, uninterrupted time in prayer more often. The busyness of life can take hold on the day right from the start, but nothing is more important than time with the Lord. This is a much needed reminder!
This world is so lost all I need is Jesus I am hooked on Jesus
I’ve cut myself off from all social media platforms. This world is passing away. This world not my home. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Exodus 14:14 KJV
Taste and see that the Lord is good. The word of God is like a two edged sword pursing to the heart. Thanks for your encouraging words. Amen
Let your light shine in us. Amen
Please help me slow down and connect to learn and understand your word. Amen
I find it true that if I just read the Bible and not actually think about what I am reading, I feel that I am not connecting with God.
