All Access Pass
Read Ephesians 2:17-18
And He came and preached peace to those who were far and peace to those who were near. For through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
What is the only way to experience peace with God? What is the only way to approach Him?
Have you ever been backstage at a concert? Maybe you were given one of those badges that said VIP and you flashed it at the security guards like you were really important. You got to meet a star, shake their hand, pose for a picture, and tell them face to face how much you admire them. But chances are you didn’t get that pass for free. There was a cost involved.
So it is with God. Not just anyone can approach the God who created the universe! In order to approach God, you have to be perfectly sinless and holy as He is holy. Do you know any humans who fit that description? Me neither.
So how could anyone be considered near to God? Well, He chose an exclusive group of people to be His chosen ones. And they could experience God’s presence. But it came at a cost. It required blood. God’s chosen people, the Jews, had to follow God’s laws carefully, offer animal sacrifices, and make offerings before God in order for their sins to be forgiven. Without blood atonement, they were just as far from God as everyone else. If they wanted access to God, they could exclusively have it. But they had to pay the price of blood sacrifice.
But then everything changed when, “He came and preached peace.” Through Jesus’s ultimate sacrifice, all of us--Jew and Gentile--can be at peace with God. All of us can have access to the Father! Even better, it’s free! It doesn’t cost you anything. Jesus paid the price for us. He shed His blood as a sacrifice for us. We have been made holy and blameless in His sight through Jesus! The Jews no longer have exclusive access. Paul is clear that both Jews and Gentiles have the same access through the same Holy Spirit.
Friends, Jesus came so that everyone can approach God the Father! But they have to come by the shed blood of Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus Himself tells us that no one comes to the Father, except through Him. Do you want access to the God of the universe? You can have it. All you have to do is accept the free gift of salvation that is offered through Jesus Christ.
God, thank You for sending Your Son to grant me access to You. I know I don’t deserve it but I long for Your presence. Amen.
