Day 7
Tidings of Comfort
God rest you merry, gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ our Saviour
Was born upon this day,
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray:
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy.
~from “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen”
Are you in the midst of sorrow and dismay? Is Christmas a time of conflict, anxiety, or painful memories? You are not alone.
For many, what should be “the most wonderful time of the year” is just a painful reminder of happier days. For others, it is a time of stress, dread, or misery.
Let this be a reminder to you that we worship the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). Isaiah reminds us that “The Lord has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted” (49:13).
How can we be comforted in times pain, grief, or suffering? By remembering that Jesus came “to save us all from Satan’s power when we were gone astray.” No matter what you are going through, in the end God will conquer, and He gives us forgiveness, freedom, and eternal life.
These are truly “tidings of comfort.” Will you allow Jesus to comfort your soul today?
