Come, Adore
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
~from “Angels We Have Heard on High”
We are made to worship. Worship is hardwired into our being. We are worshippers.
The world may think that civilization has grown out of the worship phase—that they have moved past the ancient practice of bowing down before carved idols and false deities. But they are only fooling themselves.
They have simply traded their old gods for new ones. Some bow before the altar of career. Others make sacrifices to the god of self-image. Still others worship money, sex, or possessions. Even great things, like health, family, or knowledge, can become idols when they take God’s place.
But there is only one Person we were designed to worship. “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve” (Luke 4:8). Only when we lay our sacrifice of praise before the feet of Jesus will we find the peace and joy and intimacy we are looking for.
Who or what are you worshipping today? “Come, adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, the newborn King.”
