Day 21
More Loud and Deep
And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”
~from “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”
Who among us has not, from time to time, looked around and felt defeated? So much darkness in this world. So much evil. So much strife, and envy, and conflict.
When our eyes are focused on the things around us, it is easy to despair because “hate is strong.” It is easy to say, “There is no peace on earth. It’s all a fanciful dream.”
But when that happens, we must turn our focus to God, who has promised that in the end “the Wrong shall fail, the Right prevail.” God is not dead and He doesn’t sleep. He knows what goes on in this world and He will act. His love is “more loud and deep” than the corruption and turmoil of this earth.
So don’t give up hope. Turn your eyes to Jesus and trust His promises!
