King, and God, and Sacrifice
Born a King on Bethlehem plain,
Gold I bring to crown Him again…
Frankincense to offer have I,
Incense owns a Deity nigh…
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom…
Glorious now behold Him arise,
King, and God, and Sacrifice
~from “We Three Kings”
The Wise Men brought three gifts to the young Christ-child. Gold represented the fact that Jesus was a king. Frankincense represented the fact that Jesus was God. Myrrh represented the fact that Jesus came to die.
These gifts were expensive and extravagant. The Wise Men were thoughtful and intentional in their gift giving.
What about you? What gifts to do bring to Jesus this Christmas? Do you give of your time, of your money, of your service? Are your gifts extravagant and intentional? Or are you giving God your leftovers?
