Jesus took the bread, gave thanks to God, and distributed it to the people who were sitting there. He did the same with the fish, and they all had as much as they wanted.
Pray: "It is wonderful to be grateful and to sing your praises, LORD Most High! It is wonderful each morning to tell about your love and at night to announce how faithful you are" (
Psalm 92:1-2, CEV).
Reflect: What does pausing to say thanks to God before eating do for us? What is holding us back from participating in an act that allows us to behave like Jesus? How many other experiences in life might be affected positively if we paused for prayer before we began?
Respond: Bring up the subject of meal prayers, at a meal during this season. Ask family members to help you compose a prayer of two or three simple statements that expresses gratitude to God for providing the meal. Agree together to use that prayer at family meals for a month or so, and discover what happens.
