Grace is one key difference between Christianity and the world's religions. The message of grace is expressed in the gospel. But in today's marketplace of ideas, we hear about different versions of the gospel.
But are there different versions of the gospel? Paul says, "No way."
Galatians 1:6-7 says, "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ."
There is one gospel message - one true gospel message. What is that message? Salvation comes one way: by grace through faith. That's why Paul said in Galatians 2:21, "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose."
Religion is all about what you can do to work your way to God. But if that worked, Christ's death was meaningless.
But we know we can't work our way to God. Only Christ can bridge that gap.
Today believe and cling to the one true gospel. Allow it to transform your life. Then share it with the lost around you.
Reflect: Read Galatians 2:15-21. What is justification by faith? How do faith and obedience relate?
Respond: What have you added to or taken away from the gospel? What needs to change to live according to it?
