Sin is a taboo. People don't talk about sin. People reject the notion of sin. If sin is recognized, it won't be claimed.
However, sin is real. God cares about it.
But where did sin come from?
Romans 5:12 has the answer: "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned."
Sin wasn't actualized in the world until Adam and Eve disobeyed God. They were perfect but always had the capacity to sin. It simply wasn't realized until they ate of the fruit. The result was a sinful nature for us all.
Though we are all born with a sin nature, God offers us a new nature through His son, Jesus Christ.
Sin is real. Sin destroys. Sin corrupts. There is no human program to fix our sin nature. Our only hope is Christ.
That's why Jesus Christ came to earth: to seek and save the lost (19:10). He died so you and I might live. That is a reason to celebrate! So let's educate the world and share the good news.
Reflect: Read Genesis 3:1-7. Why do you think Adam and Eve doubted God? What does this tell us about mankind? What does Adam and Eve's freedom teach us about God?
Respond: Who needs to hear the gospel today? Before you share it with them, bathe in it first.
