I have also been following this discussion in which Mr. Crawford used Colossians 2:12 as his text. Compare this verse with Romans 6:3-4, and you will see that they are making the same point. Paul told the Colossians that they were "buried with Him in baptism" and "risen with Him through faith in the operation of God." He told the Romans that they were"buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Paul clearly teaches that the new life or new birth (John3:5) begins AFTER a person is buried in the water and then raised up in the likeness of the resurrection. Peter also teaches this in I Peter 3:21, that baptism is the like figure of the resurrection of Jesus, and "baptism doth also now save us."
